Interessant ist die Mischung der ausgewählten Stücke. Von alten
Standards wie beispielsweise "Sweet Georgia Brown" oder "Petite
Fleur" über "Alice Blue Gown" (schon 1920 von der Original
Dixieland Jazz Band aufgenommen) zu Joe Zawinuls "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy"
sind alles neue Arrangements zu hören.
Es ist tatsächlich etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig, Chris in dieser Formation
zu hören. Der Kick kommt aber sofort! Es ist herrlicher, purer Jazz,
angereichert mit etwas Big Band Sound, vermischt mit Blues und gewürzt
mit New Orleans Sound - eben doch und allen Puristen zu Trotz -
unüberhörbar Chris Barber's Jazz & Blues & Big Band.

here is the brand new CD, for the first time with the "official"
Big Chris Barber Band.
The mix of the selected tunes is very interesting. The CD contains old
standards like "Sweet Georgia Brown", "Petite Fleur"
or "Alice Blue Gown" (already recorded in 1920 by the legendary
Original Dixieland Jazz Band) as well as Joe Zawinuls "Mercy, Mercy,
Mercy". However, almost all these tunes had been adapted and arranged
to the new 11 piece band.
Indeed, we have to get used to the new sound of
Chris Barber. But you will soon realise that this is fantastic and pure
Jazz, enriched with Big Band Sound, mixed up with blues and finally spiced
with New Orleans elements. To all purists I can say it is ll the true
Chris Barber Sound, in my opinion the Chris Barber Jazz & Blues &
Big Band. What else do you want more? |
