Im Februar 2006 ist
von Storyville eine neue DVD erschienen, die praktisch das ganze Stockholm
Konzert vom 13. April 1986 enthält. Die Tonqualität ist hervorragend und sogar
die Bildqualität kann als sehr gut bezeichnet werden.
Die DVD zeigt die
Band in hervorragender Stimmung. Es ist - soweit mir bekannt ist - die einzige
DVD mit dem Gitarristen Roger Hill, der zwischen 1978 und 1986 John
Slaughter ersetzte. Mir gefällt ganz besonders sein Gitarrenspiel in
"Buddy Bolden Blues" - aber beachten Sie auch das tolle Trompetenspiel
von Pat Halcox. In
jenen Tagen eröffnete die Band den 2. Teil des Konzerts mit der Chris Barber
Brass Band. Lassen Sie "Just a little while to stay here, Just a closer
walk with thee" sowie "When The Saints" auf sich einwirken und
Sie spüren den Geist der Musik "from the Land of Dreams" Besonders
möchte ich auf die exzellente Version von "Who's Blues" hinweisen -
ein Stück, das nicht im Repertoire der gegenwärtigen Big Chris Barber Band
ist. Ich muss vermutlich ein e-mail an Bob Hunt senden und ihn bitten, dieses
Stück für die Big Chris Barber Band zu arrangieren. Beachten Sie übrigens
auch das Mundharmonika-Spiel von Ian Wheeler in diesem Stück.

Storyville
has released in February 2006 a new DVD containing almost the complete
Stockhokm Concert of April 13th, 1986 in excellent sound and very good video
quality.
The DVD features the band in a
great mood and excellent condition. It is - to my knowledge - the only DVD
with Roger Hill on guitar. (replacing John Slaughter between 1978 and 1986). I
like very much his guitar playing in "Buddy Bolden Blues" - and
listen to the excellent trumpet of Pat Halcox.
In those days Chris and the
Band started the second half of the concert with a Brass Band Part: Listen to
"Just A Little While To Stay Here, Just A Closer Walk With Thee" as
well as "When The Saints to Marching" and you really feel the spirit
of the Music from the Land of Dreams.
I have also to point out the
excellent version of "Who's Blues"- a title that is not in the
repertoire of the present Big Chris Barber Band. Perhaps I have to send
an e-mail to Bob Hunt asking him to arrange this great blues number for the
Big Chris Barber Band. Note Ian Wheeler's harmonica in this song.
