Zuerst eine wichtige Information: Obwohl das Titelbild die aktuelle Besetzung der Big Chris Barber Band zeigt, handelt es sich um eine Aufnahme der Chris Barber Jazz & Blues & Brass Band von 1983.

Diese Ende Februar 2005 durch die deutsche Gesellschaft ZYX veröffentlichte DVD bringt uns nach London in den Marquee Club. Es ist ein tolles Konzert mit sehr guten Video Bildern der Chris Barber Band und - natürlich - von Dr. John. Leider sind keine weiteren Informationen auf der DVD enthalten. Ich gehe davon aus, dass es sich um das Konzert vom Freitag, 15. April 1983 handelt. Ein Teil dieses Konzertes wurde bereits früher als LP resp. CD veröffentlicht ("Chris Barber & Dr. John - Mardi Gras at the Marquee" - Timeless CDTTD 546/547 resp. LP TTD 546/547). Ich bin sicher, mein Kollege und Archiv Team Mitglied Julian Purser wird die korrekten Aufnahmeinformationen noch herausfinden.

Die Titelbezeichnungen sind teilweise nicht korrekt: Titel Nr. 2 wird als"New Orleans Memories" und Titel Nr. 3 als "Panorama" aufgeführt. Die beiden Titel sind aber effektiv die ganze Version von "Panama", eines meiner Lieblingsstücke. Soviel mir bekannt ist, ist dies bisher die einzige DVD, auf der Roger Hill an der Bluesgitarre zu sehen und hören ist.

Mac Rebenacs (oder Dr. Johns) New Orleans sounds sind grossartig. Ich schätze sein Pianospiel sehr, achten Sie mal auf seine grossartigen Riffs.

Die DVD endet mit der Chris Barber Brass Band von 1983 und der "marching version" von "When the Saints".

So, und nun gehen Sie zum nächsten DVD Laden und kaufen sich diese Scheibe zu einem vernünftigen Preis (hier in der Schweiz kostet sie CHF 19.80, oder rund € 13.--) und ziehen Sie sich die tolle Atmosphäre vom Marquee Club rein!

 A first, but important remark: Although the title picture shows the actual members of the Big Chris Barber Band, it is a recording of the Chris Barber Jazz & Blues & Brass Band of 1983!!

This new DVD, released in February 2005 by the German company ZYX takes us to London at the Marquee Club. It's a great concert with very good video pictures of the Band and - of course - Dr. John. As there are no discographical information on the DVD package, I assume it must be the recording of Friday, April 15th, 1983. A part of this concert was available too on CD "Chris Barber & Dr. John - Mardi Gras at the Marquee" (Timeless CDTTD 546/547 resp. the LP TTD 546/547). I'm sure that my colleague and archive team member Julian Purser will find out the correct recording information. 

The title information are partly not correct. Track nr 2 is announced as "New Orleans Memories" and track nr 3 as "Panorama". However, the complete tracks nr 2 and 3 are a wonderful version of "Panama", one of my personal favourite tunes. To my knowledge it is up to now the only DVD production that shows Roger Hill on guitar. 

The New Orleans sounds of Mac Rebenac (or Dr. John) are great. I like his piano playing very much, listen to his superb riffs.

The DVD ends up with the Chris Barber Brass Band of 1983, playing the marching version of "When the saints". 

Go to the nearest DVD shop and buy this DVD at a very reasonable price (here in Switzerland CHF 19.80 or € 13.--) and enjoy the great athmosphere at the Marquee!
