November 1960 traf sich Chris Barber mit hochkarätigen amerikanischen
Musikern in New York City. In diesen beiden Tagen sind die oben
aufgeführten Titel eingespielt worden.
Nachdem schon die Origial
LP unter Columbia resp. Philips sehr schwer erhältlich war, gab es unter
dem Label Black & Blue vor etwa 20 Jahren eine erneute Reissue. Diesem
Label ist es zu verdanken, dass die Titel nunmehr auf CD erschienen sind.
Musikalisch entsprechen die Titel nicht dem damaligen Barber Sound der
End50er Jahre. Es ist aber sehr interessant, wie sich Chris Barber mit
seiner "weissen" Posaune in den Sound der schwarzen Musiker
integriert. Alles in allem eine CD nicht nur für den Barber Fan, sondern
auch für den Sammler von Aufnahmen von Edmund Hall, Sidney de Paris
etc.

On November 7th &
8th 1960 Chris met several great American jazz musicians in New York City
and recorded the titles listed above with these
celebrities.
In the early 1960s it was extremely difficult to find the original LP,
which was originally released by Columbia and Philips. By coincidence, I
realised that the label "Black & Blue" reissued this LP
about twenty years ago, and now the same label has produced a CD with the
full contents of the vinyl record. Thanks, Black & Blue!
These titles sound quite different from the Barber Band of the early
1960s, but it is interesting how Chris's "white trombone" fits
so well with the sound of these much older jazz musicians. This is a
record not only for the Barber fan but also a "must" for
collectors of the recordings of Ed Hall,Sidney de Paris, etc.
